Construction of Learning Landscape, Phase I
The sloped lawn will be graded and leveled to form a flat and accessible surface, transversed by a wide and accessible concrete path throughout the landscape. Three multi-use seating zones will feature benches and fixed tables and chairs. The flagpole will be relocated.
As of May 12, 2025, Construction has begun on the Library's all-new Learning Landscape (Phase I). The existing landscape and lawn will be removed, graded, and replaced with multipurpose hardscape zones and low-maintenance plantings. Construction will reinvigorate this underutilized area with new function, and be accessible to all. (Access to the front entrance will not be affected by construction).
The Learning Landscape project is grant-funded by New York State Aid for Library Construction, and was designed by CT Male Associates and Studio A Landscape Architecture and Engineering. Construction will be completed by The VMJR Companies of Glens Falls, NY.
The once-beautiful and manicured traditional landscaping installed in 1995 is difficult to maintain and has become overgrown. It no longer accentuates the building as it once did.
During
The Carnegie building's historic façade will be restored to visual prominence with the installation of complementary, sustainable, and low-maintenance landscaping. The building stairs will be removed and reconstructed; the pathway stairs and railing will be removed. The hardscaping materials will echo those used during the 1902 construction.
